Lesson 3: Educational Technology in the Asia Pacific
Region
To provide confidence to educators that they are taking the right
steps in adopting technology in education, it is good to know that during the
last few years, progressive countries in the Asia Pacific region have
formulated state policies and strategies to infuse technology in schools.
DISCUSSION
1. How do Philippine schools compare with schools
in progressive countries in the Asia Pacific Region?
- Philippine schools compare with schools in progressive countries in the Asia Pacific- Region because Philippine schools integrated already ICT most in the urban areas while in Asia Pacific Region can't easily integrate ICT due to pervasive strategies they are using.
2. The plan of the Department of Education is to
supply computers to public elementary and high schools at a ratio of 1 school-1
computer. How adequate or inadequate do you find this plan considering that the
public school system in the Philippines has an average of 1,000 students in
each school?
- For me, it is inadequate to supply only one computer per school that consists of many students. This will lead to unfair learning since 1 computer can't accommodate 1000 students. As a result, this computer will become useless in terms of ICT.
3. What can be proposed so that the Philippines can cope up with its neighbors on IT education?
- Proposed an effective and useful strategies and/or policies that integrates ICT within the schools.
- No, this is not enough. Texting system can help us send messages through the electronic devices such as cellphones. We can easily text or talk to a person even in a long distance area. But as this texting culture widen, some values of Filipinos are vanishing. Let we say for example, almost youth nowadays didn't personally go to their parents to have permit whenever they want to go anywhere. Instead, they just text their parents. Moreover, texting culture can also affect somehow the interaction within the society.
